Living Room / Monitor Web Usage
« on: June 06, 2019, 09:47 AM »

A department at work has several employees and they work on processing files on a sharepoint website.

I want to track how long they take viewing/working on a specific webpage to measure productivity.

Do you know an easy IE plugin to log webpages/urls and time spent on them?

Or could I do that at the network level e.g. with a sniffer or something (I do not have such access though)?

Are you actually asking about a phone-screen, pc-screen or screens in general?

Phone screen and reading texts mainly or websites (not sure if it makes a difference)

Which screen spec is the most important for less eye tiring viewing?

A phone has high contrast but low pixel density and I wonder which is more important given that I read alot on the screen and my eyes get tired. Or anything else I should look for?

If I use Phone Explorer to backup the apps, will it work? Will the settings be backed up too? Can I just restore the backup to my new device?

I consider this but worried about reliability and compatibility, do you think it would be okay?
I don't want to lose my data

If you get a high-speed SD card, it's pretty good.  I use one in my surface and XPS, as on both of those I can't upgrade the hard drive or it's the largest capacity.  I don't notice a difference in most day to day tasks.

Which you consider high speed?
E.g. is this high speed?

Living Room / How to expand laptop storage?
« on: May 06, 2019, 06:55 AM »

I want to expand my medicre 128GB laptop storage.
I bought a 128GB USB but I need more and I don't find cheap USB that are compact so that I have them always connected.

My next guess is an SD card.

I found some reasonable deals:

Are they reliable? Can they stay connected for years and act like a hard drive?
Should I go for a microSD with adapter or an SD?

I see my Google backup is ON and there is a gmail account of mine as a backup account.

Shall I assume that if I login to my new phone with that gmail account, it will restore everything?

Can I check that?

Unfortunately I use apps that don't work if the phone is rooted.

Is there any other solution?

By the way, I cannot find this Google function?

Living Room / Is there a way to ping a remote desktop?
« on: March 21, 2019, 06:21 AM »

I log in to a remote desktop via Citrix and after some inactivity it locks itself.

Is there a way to auto-ping regularly it so that it stays active?

Got new phone, is there an easy way to transfer my settings/apps/data?

Living Room / How to calculate the area of a graph?
« on: March 05, 2019, 05:51 PM »

I have this graph and I want to calculate the amount in grams of glucose that is above the straight line of 100mg/dl for the whole period of about 5h.

I think I need to calculate the area of the triangle, but this will give me a unit of mg/dL x hours which does not make sense.

Can anyone advise me please?

QtWeb was a good option but it is not updated any more

Shall I assume that Powershell is the best tool to do the above?

I want to copy specific cells from specific sheet in a specific excel document, into a word document, format it properly and email the formatted text to a specific email address at specific time every day.

Is it going to be huge coding to do that?

Can I do all these within MS Office?

Any hints?

Is there a compact portable browser?

Living Room / Re: Any VBA experts?

I have a sheet with lots of formulas and text called TEMPLATESHEET. This sheet is stored in a TEMPLATEWORKBOOK.

When I open any xls file, I want a macro that will insert to the active workbook, the TEMPLATESHEET.

However, the TEMPLATESHEET, has some formulas that refer to a sheet called REFERENCESHEET.

So, when the xls file I open has a sheet with the same name, REFERENCESHEET, I want the formulas for the TEMPLATESHEET to link to the REFERENCESHEET.

Would that be possible? I may have to search-and-replace the #REF of the TEMPLATESHEET to match the REFERENCESHEET, unless the TEMPLATESHEET will preserve the references and have them working.

I don't think there is more info than that available.

Living Room / Any VBA experts?

I have an Excel sheet with formulas and text in hundreds of cells.

Is there a way to click a button and add this sheet to the active workbook, in any xls file I have opened?

Some formulas refer to a sheet with a specific name, so when this sheet is present in the workbook, the formulas must work.

I cannot find how to do this:

Range("A1").Formula = "This is some text ",TEXT((COUNTIFS(UDE!$AC:$AC,"Low",UDE!$G:$G,"High")+COUNTIFS(UDE!$AC:$AC,"MLD",UDE!$G:$G,"High"))/COUNTIF(UDE!$G:$G,"High"),"00%"))"
Range("A1").Formula = "=CONCATENATE("This is some text ",TEXT((COUNTIFS(UDE!$AC:$AC,"Low",UDE!$G:$G,"High")+COUNTIFS(UDE!$AC:$AC,"MLD",UDE!$G:$G,"High"))/COUNTIF(UDE!$G:$G,"High"),"00%"))"

Neither works, any idea?

So far I plan to write a macro in excel that will create a new sheet and populate some cells with the formulas that calculate the numbers I want.
Then, I suppose I can use Mail Merge to grab the numbers from these cells and populate the report.

Would that be the best approach?

Or is it possible to do easily everything with Powershell or Word or Excel only?
