But you seem to have spent a couple of more hours here... :)

You're welcome.

OK, to leave something more useful than a sigh, here is the line that does the job in XYplorer (sets the created date of each selected item to that item's modified date):

timestamp "c", "*", , "m";

For one-time usage you can paste that line into the address bar and press Enter.

(Obviously, if you need the reverse job, simply swap "c" and "m".)

Hmm, I thought you guys here know XYplorer? Would have been a snap. It's built for such tasks. Pity I saw this too late. :-\

Looks cool, but I don't get it to work with XYplorer, using the portable version apimonitor-x86.exe. I have XYplorer.exe listed and selected in "Monitored Processes" but no API calls are listed.

I agree this should be discussed in XY's user forum.

Have you tested the latest version (17.70)? This thing is evolving and, contrary to some others ;), it's usually getting faster with each release.

Weird that nobody in my forum reports this. And I'm sure they would. They are merciless.

Could it be that a sleeping hard disk wakes up? This can take some seconds, and usually you hear some kind of yawning noise.

"It frequently locks up on me for several seconds at a time." ??? You should report that at XYplorer's user forum. It's certainly not a known issue. If it can be confirmed it will be fixed quickly. I know because I'm the one who does it. :)

XYplorer dev here: I checked that in XYplorer and indeed when using the standard copy (using the shell copy API) any leading spaces are automatically removed from the copied filenames.

I recommend to enable XYplorer's own "Custom Copy" which does not have this sort of undesired smartness. Or use XYplorer's Backup function which also does not have this problem.

OTOH, I would generally not recommend leading spaces in filenames. Sooner or later they will get you in trouble.

Well, XYplorer.exe is 6.68 MB and 100% portable. No install required. Run it from anywhere. The free version XYplorerFree is even a little bit smaller. :)

Well, XYplorer has this functionality for many years (since 05-Oct-2009). And it also can do it for files, of course. 8)
The commands are called "New Folders" and "New Files", both under menu Edit / New.

Note that XYplorer native variables, environment variables, and full and relative paths are supported. So you can as well state patterns like these:

      MoonLanding\TopSecret\new.txt
      \MarsLanding\TopSecret\new.txt
      D:\Testpath\new.txt
      %username%.txt
      New <date yyyymmdd>.txt

General Software Discussion / Re: Directory replicator for Windows
« on: February 06, 2016, 03:03 AM »
A little late, but if you are interested in a GUI solution, XYplorerFree (freeware -- http://www.xyplorer.com/free.php) has it. Just drag (with right mouse button) a folder(s) anywhere and select "Create Branch(es) Here" to replicate the directory structure(s) without the files. (No control over the levels though.)

15
The latest XYplorer (16.10) has something brand-new to offer along these lines: Batch Move

http://www.xyplorer...._16.10.php#BatchMove

Can move heaps of files to new folders by much more properties than just parts of the filename.

Just saying. :)

16
In XYplorer you select the file(s) you want to Duplicate and press Ctrl+D. Key repetition works: keep the buttons down and copies are churned out like machine gun fire.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals
« on: December 02, 2014, 02:58 AM »
I'm not sure what "SST" is. According to Google it's literally all over the map: Swedish Summer Time, Singapore Standard Time, Samoa Standard Time, or South Sumatran Time
I meant it to be Samoa Standard Time, the last place on earth where Cyber Monday turns to Tuesday. (http://www.timeandda...e.com/time/zones/sst)

General Software Discussion / Re: Easy way to mark file as done?
« on: August 22, 2014, 04:03 AM »
In XYplorer it's called "Extra Tags". For "Done" you would create a special column named "Done" with checkboxes. See here:

http://www.xyplorer...._13.80.htm#ExtraTags

But, of course, those tags are not visible from other software.

20
What programs have the most advanced file tagging functionalities? To clarify: I am not talking about multimedia tagging, where the metadata fields are fixed. I am talking about free-form tagging of any files, with tag fields arbitrarily defined by the user, for managing large collections of heteronegeous files.

Functionalities such as logical operations with tags (set theory and such), wildcards in the tag queries (e.g. include all tags that match abc*), virtual folders based on tags, etc. would especially be very much appreciated.

Any ideas related to tagging programs, even if not currently implemented in a program, would be welcome in this thread.

Try XYplorer. It's a file manager with tagging as a central feature.

For detailed information and screenshots check out the links after "Tag Clouds" and "Tag-Based File Management" on this page: http://www.xyplorer.com/features.php

So the original creation time is not present in the NTFS Created date of the folders, but only in the folder names? And the problem is *sorting* them?

22
Filter and order folders by the date of original creation time

I would like to obtain a list of folders by the creation date in the original pc where they were created.
Additionally go to different levels in a tree. Even choosing the subfolders i wish more details . Custumizable.

Best Regards

Can you post an example of what output you desire?

Permanent Custom Sort Order (PCS) is on XYplorer's road map since long, and all the thinking has been done, I more or less just need to type in the code. Only I'm not sure about the importance of this feature compared to other ideas I have. I have the impression that only very few people would actually use PCS.
XYplorer's recent beta finally has it: Permanent Custom Sort Order!

Yeah, USA, let's enjoy a great match tonight!
