vmware method is great, the one where you "repair" the tiger vmware image to a secondary darwinx86 formatted partition/hd is what i used

at startup, there is a delay of 10 seconds to input boot parameters "hit any key"

use for top speed the following... "platform=x86pc" no quotes

then go tweak crazy

dualboot, become owner, graphical tweaks, delete "/System/Library/Extensions/AppleTPMACPI.kext" (important) etc.

in a nutshell osX is much peppier than xp on my machine, even without hardware acceleration of video. yikes.

it's amazing how quickly this scene is growing and progressing.

if your cpu supports the SSE3 instruction set your in luck. SSE2, will take a few more hours.

in a nutshell, i will not update my xp machine to Service Pack 2, and have begun using this windows update alternative to download hotfixes and updates instead.

downloads hotfixes and goodies to C:\WUTemp.

perfect for slipstreaming. with nlite of course.


couldn't make up my mind where to put this, Software in the Wild or not.

an idea perhaps for v3

integration into the taskbar. sleek unobtrusive configurable functionality.

it would blow that lame windows address toolbar out of the water.
like gnome mini-commander, only much, much better.

i could go on and on about this, but won't.

are you thinking about making a utility to do this?

i have a computer in my living room, doesn't everyone?

though one will discuss software in the "Living Room" (geeks), one would never discuss Memorial Day, Pay Pal, or significant others in "Software in the Wild".

"Software in the Wild" can be moderated and kept on track easily. it's an easy section to understand and scan, things are on topic, or off topic, an announcement or review of some cool app, or not.

"Living Room" seems for the most part on track, containing opinions, questions and discussions. if some straight up and simple announcement of a cool application (as opposed to a site with cool applications)  is mistakenly posted there, just move it to "SITW". it's also a good place to discover the level of interest in a subject for new sections of the forums.

in my...  oh so very humble opinion, both sections should remain, and this sub-thread here should be moved to the "Living Room" .

DesktopCoral / window classes?

hello there again,

i use a program called iEx, it hides or thumbnails program windows on the desktop.
it can be configured to exclude programs, by executable or class. i think it's called a window class.
identifying the Desktop Coral executable to it doesn't work.

that was what i was using before i found your Desktop Corral.

the problem with DesktopX handling your "workarea" is that when you exit full screen games, and sometimes while playing them, the desktop jiggles and wiggles terribly until the "corralling" is redone. DesktopX also forgets your settings.

DesktopCoral / multiple corals, a suggestion

i use multiple corral folders and shortcuts to my startup folder to create this effect at boot.
