Science A GoGo Website

Science A GoGo website, looks nice:

The latest science news, research tidbits and science discussion.
Detailed research into Science a GoGo has identified a clear passion for science accompanied by a startling lack of commercial acumen and a cavalier attitude toward the use of apostrophes.

The Great Flickr Tools Collection

blog clipart
Turns out lots of people at Flickr want a batch download feature, and a few people have developed some apps:

FlickrDown:  http://greggman.com/pages/flickrdown.htm
FlickrAide:  http://members.liwes...flickraide/index.htm
FlickrBackup:  http://sourceforge.n...57&release_id=388388

The first two are windows only and require .net, the third one is pretty good but has limited options.  It loads your entire photostream (takes a long time if you only want a specific set) and doesn't give you the option of downloading a smaller size than the original.

Seems like it would be useful to have an OS-independent solution to this problem, something like a Firefox plugin that would add some checkboxes or something to let users download multiple photos.  Would also be nice to download multiple photos from other users' accounts than my own.  Anyone up for the task?

Why Smart People Defend Bad Ideas - Essay #40 by Scott Berkun

#40 - Why smart people defend bad ideas
By Scott Berkun, April 2005
We all know someone that’s intelligent, but who occasionally defends obviously bad ideas. Why does this happen? How can smart people take up positions that defy any reasonable logic? Having spent many years working with smart people I’ve catalogued many of the ways this happens, and I have advice on what to do about it. I feel qualified to write this essay as I’m a recovering smart person myself and I’ve defended several very bad ideas.

Scott's Blog is quickly becoming a must-read daily site for me.  Here's an older but excellent essay.

New WEP Wireless Router Attack Found - Cracks in Seconds

blog clipart
It is not really news that WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) has been severely broken for a long time (major design flaws), but recently a paper revealed new ways of attacking the security protocol that effectively renders it totally useless.
