 | Am looking for 'the best password manager' software. I'm currently using Keepass, but I know of a few others and I'm wondering what your experiences are and what the essential features are for 'the best' one. What I like about keepass is the cost& the portability of the password file. However I'm not impressed with the lack of integration with the various programs and i still find it cubersome to add all my passwords in (so I don't use it for everything which defeats its purpose). I was recommended Steganos Password Manager but couldn't find any experiences here. If it's not easy to use then it's not getting used as far as I'm concerned. |

Nice post -- i love how you added the list of related dc threads.  Personally i use and love Roboform for web logins and filling out web forms but don't use it (not sure why) for other general purpose password storage. |

My first was PINs for many years. Then moved to KeePass briefly. Finally settled on RoboForm and then RoboForm2Go: now I can't live without them  . Have it based at home and sync'd onto my USB stick for work. RoboForm is hard to beat, it just does everything with a great deal of ease. Definitely worth the money! |

Oh it so pains me to hear all the praise for Roboform...  (Yeah... I know it's a good product, but it's still the competition - well... kind of... it's not free...) However, I will have an announcement in a few weeks for something that does have a very high cool factor, and for password managment, will certainly be of interest for some people here. Anyways... |

Oh it so pains me to hear all the praise for Roboform... (Yeah... I know it's a good product, but it's still the competition - well... kind of... it's not free...) I know... it took me years and years to finally "jump ship"... but I'm glad I did: it really is superior to everything I've tried. However, I will have an announcement in a few weeks for something that does have a very high cool factor, and for password managment, will certainly be of interest for some people here. Roboform sucks.  KeyPass is the best. (no restrictive plugin architecture to bind you to one computer/browser; portable) Fini. |

I used steganos locknote, but now I use fSekrit since I found out it makes smaller files then locknote does.
I like it, because I don't like actual password managers. They are loaded down with to many features. all I need is a text box that I can type in my passwords/reg info for programs/sites/etc, and then require a password to open it, and fSekrit does just that. No special features, just a text box, and a password, and if I loose the original program, all I have to do is open a note I made with it, and then I have another copy of it.

I vote for RoboForm2Go. It's on my thumb drive and works on any computer I use along with portable firefox.

Well Nighted, I can respect your right to dislike a product. It would be nice to know why so its not just a blanket statement which plaques many of the "reviews" i see on various sites. These reviews provide little insight into the product and leave the person wondering what could possibly be wrong.

Now as a form filler it is a good product, but as a password manager I wouldnt really use it - I would have to reinstall it to put my finger on what exactly I didnt like, but in part it did feel quite naggy and it didnt inspire my trust...

You've hit the nail on the head! It really is a Form Filler. I don't think it's got the functionality to fill non-web controls. And that is the only thing that bugs me about RoboForm... it's a hassle to put your general passwords in there as it's hard to get them out (can't even drag and drop, you have to copy and paste). |

If you can't it is because the application you are trying to drop on isn't allowing it. You can also just click on the little icon next to the field in RoboForm and it will automatically copy it to the clipboard for you so you need not even use Ctrl + C. 9. Fill Forms by Drag-and-Drop.
If the "Fill Forms" button does not fill forms from the Passcard, you can drag-and-drop field values from the Passcard Editor to an online form:
- Start dragging the field by its drag and drop handle which is a picture of small suitcase,
- Select the field value or its part and then start dragging the selection.
- Not all applications will accept a drop part of drag-and-drop.
10. Fill Forms by Copy-and-Paste.
You can also Copy-and-Paste values into the online form or an application:
- In Passcard Editor click the Handle icon, it will copy field value to Clipboard.
- In your online form or application place mouse to field to be filled and press CTRL+V or invoke Paste command using this application user interface.
- Most applications can Paste from clipboard. So if Drag-and-Drop does not work, use Copy and Paste. |
